Uncut and in Conversation with - Simon Halliday, co-founder of The Sporting Wine Club
Simon Halliday is a well known England Rugby legend, the co-founder of The Sporting Wine Club and a long time friend of EP Business in Hospitality.
In an interesting and candid interview, Simon talks about his business which all started from his special relationship with Springbok rugby legend Schalk Burger, the incredible wines which the Burger family produce in South Africa and Simon's desire to import them to the UK. Since then he has added to his impressive wine offering which include wines from estates owned by Lionel Messi, Ian Botham and Bob Willis, Sir Nick Faldo to mention a few as well as whiskey from Sir Gareth Edwards to gin from Doddie Weir and Michael Vaughan.
As Chairman of European Club Rugby, Simon talks of the difficulties currently being experienced and the desire from both spectators and players for sport to return to stadia as sport is such a large part of our lives and communities.
With the hospitality industry experiencing difficult times at present, Simon is a firm believer that by supporting suppliers and focusing on relationships, we can get through this and thrive together once again. As an entrepreneur he firmly believes that businesses need to focus on their USP's and make the most of their differentials as it will be important to stand out and give value as we come out of this difficult time.
As a father of a young family with their 3rd child Joey being born 2 days ago, Simon talks of his lockdown experience and how this period of time has changed his thinking and behaviours, both personally and in business.
A great conversation with a great man.
