Meet The Team
EP driven by talent, for talent
Chris Sheppardson launched EP Business in Hospitality magazine (formerly En Passant) in 2005 to create a communication platform for industry leaders, focusing on the people and characters that define the sector while fostering constructive debate on key issues. Founder of the Chess Group of Companies in 1998, Chris champions the importance of individuals and cultural fit within organisations. As Managing Director of EP Business in Hospitality and Chess Partnership, he continues to support the growth and development of both people and organisations in the hospitality industry.
Marcello Alessi brings a broad perspective and a wealth of knowledge to the EP team, having established and managed various business ventures in the UK and across Europe, including Italy and Switzerland. Marcello’s experience across sectors such as hospitality, app development, clean energy, fintech, and asset management enhances his contribution to EP’s initiatives both locally and internationally.
Helena Houghton is the latest addition to the team. Previously as Executive Director of Adopt a School at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, she worked directly with chefs and hospitality professionals to champion the industry and inspire future generations with a passion she will bring with her to EP. Helena will play a central role in EP’s client relations, event management and our new support services. Outside of work, you will find Helena treading the boards at her local theatre.
Lexie Cook has grown up with a passion for food and hospitality. She recently received an undergraduate degree in Biology at Newcastle University and has recently completed a Master of Research in Epidemiology. Prior to working with EP Lexie interned with Ritrovo, a start-up focused on leadership and professional development.
Izzy McHattie has worked in hospitality from a young age, before studying Criminology at the University of Liverpool. After graduating, she joined a charity as a relationship manager that got ex-offenders, homeless & veterans into work within hospitality. Izzy has always been a great lover for all things sports, and spends a lot of her time training for the Javelin.
Katie Wilson has always had a passion for storytelling. During senior school she attended creative writing workshops and residential courses, inspiring her to start writing a novel herself. After graduating, she began work at Barter Books, one of the largest second hand bookshops in the county. In 2023, Katie started work with EP alongside her work at the bookshop and as she continues to write her novel. She hopes to improve her writing skills and to help tell the many wonderful stories found within the hospitality and tourism industry.
