Throw away the textbooks and online learning... Growth is about real life experiences

One of the most common discussions is how there is a lack of emerging leaders and a greater narrowness of thinking and understanding within business. We have been arguing the case that this is the result of a whole range of factors from school league tables to university debt to increased processes within business. All combined have created issues that we need to solve – as we need new leaders and people with breadth of care and understanding. Our argument is that better people = better professionals and this year we are delighted to launch an initiative that seeks to encourage people to get involved in activities outside of work and challenges that will stretch them personally. It is based a model used by the great All Blacks. They found that when their players were involved in activities outside of their daily disciplines their overall performance and decision making improved. So this year we are delighted to launch a range of activities but also ask those that those who get involved also do so to support charitable goals. It doesn’t matter how much is raised or how they are supported – it is just about getting involved. The charities EP is supporting this year:
  • The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and Adopt a School – taking chefs into schools to teach about great food.
  • Crista Cullen (Olympic Gold Medallist) and her Elephant Conservation in Kenya.
We are delighted to be hosting:
  • The 'Way of the Gods' Walk – 18th June for one week in Italy. Visiting some of the great hotels and restaurants en route. c120km.
  • A 'Walk in Burgundy'; Dijon to Macon – For one week including The Grand Cru Walk. c120km.
  • The Austrian Lakes and Mountains Walk - c90km.
We will also be hosting a series of special activities at:
  • Handle & Hendrix Museum London
  • Sir John Soane's Museum
  • Hayward Gallery
  • Contemporary Portrait Collection at Portcullis House
  • Debates in Commons Chamber
  • Wellcome Collection
  • National Gallery
  • Drawing at the National Portrait Gallery
  • Tour behind the scenes in commercial kitchens, hotel operations and more
It is all about finding new perspectives, new friendships and really contributing to wider causes. To find out how more about how you or your business can get involved please contact Lauran.Bush@epmagazine.co.uk
