Save water. Save money.

Save water. Save money.

Water in the UK is taken for granted. Turn on the tap and there’s water running or put on the dishwasher and there’s water filling it up in seconds. Most people use water without thinking about it, but actually a lot is wasted and the bills are high. The country recycles because we are conserving natural resources and reducing waste. Yet why isn’t this thought of with water? There isn’t an endless supply available, 97 per cent is salt water and only 3 per cent is fresh water. Of this, two thirds is locked in ice caps and glaciers, leaving only 1 per cent of all water available for drinking water. Spectank have recognised this and so designed a solution for kitchen operations which not only saves water but also money.A tap running for just 1 hour uses 800 litres of water. This may not sound a lot but at home a person only uses an average of 126 litres per day. A busy kitchen might have numerous taps running for various activities and the tap that hardly ever switches off during a busy service is the one located in the pot wash. Spectank designed a tank which works with their environmentally friendly powder to clean every kitchen filter, utensil, pot and pan of the grease, grime and oil residues which are left from cooking, and if not cleaned properly turns into that hard crust-like carbon. Those who have used the heated soak tank are often surprised at how easy it is to use. The specially designed heated steel tank accommodates the majority of kitchen items and only requires one application of the environmentally friendly powder, to clean continuously for 30 days.

The saving by switching to Spectank is not only good for the environment but also saves money. If a kitchen saved just 1 hour of washing under a running tap every day for 30 days, that’s 24,000 litres of water saved. For commercial users it can cost over £2 for every 1,000 litres used, which includes the cost of both the supply and post use treatment. Spectank uses only 100 litres plus weekly top-ups for the whole month, so it would save an operation £48 per month. If you include the cost of heating the water (£52.80 per month) the savings do start to add up.It is important how we learn how to save water. By doing so we help to preserve the environment and reduce the energy required to process and deliver water, which in turn reduces pollution and conserves resources. For more information please contact Ben Butler at EP Business in Hospitality
