EP asks the question - where are the new leaders in hospitality?

One of the on-going debates of the last decade has been that few have emerged as genuine new leaders. Still the Industry is dominated by names that have led since the 90s. It is high time that new leaders broke through and took up the mantle. However, how has the talent of the younger generation been nurtured over this time? Has there been a lack of leadership training to help them reach their next levels? This week Lynn Blades and Mari Carras introduced the The F.E.A.S.T. Project - a leader development experience which offers an opportunity to strengthen teams and identify leaders through self-discovery in nature’s habitat. The founders held an interactive event which provided an insight into what The F.E.A.S.T Project is and attendees were able to experience some of the activities that are involved in the unique leadership approach.   F.E.A.S.T. is a collection of experts who recreate the lost art of earning a meal. The experience empowers participants by taking them on activities including foraging, fishing, butchering, and then enjoying the rewards in a shared table experience at a private mansion in the countryside.

Lynn (pictured) and Mari were praised for their approach to leadership and how the Project embodies an enlightening, empowering, character-building group experience.

The event was held at AVEQIA in London and guests were able to try some some delicious seasonal delicacies foraged from the farms, fisheries and hills of Devon as presented by The F.E.A.S.T. Project.

On the night guests were taught butcher skills and also how to gut fish - a first for many in the group. During a F.E.A.S.T. experience guests are divided into individual teams where participants will fly-fish, forage, (clay) shoot, butcher, prepare and deliver the ingredients to a chef. The highly skilled chef then creates a gourmet multi-course F.E.A.S.T. sourced directly from the farms, rivers and fields of the surrounding vicinity.

For hospitality, there is change taking place and there is an argument that companies will need to invest in the development of its leaders, in management and in developing the overall service offering. The belief is that all business models are changing and under pressure and from this, new models will emerge. The only way to ensure effective growth lies in understanding and managing the change that is taking place. F.E.A.S.T. understands the importance of nurturing a person’s potential to grow and achieve is essential to creating a sustainable enterprise. Whether the motivation is personal or professional, the success of the F.E.A.S.T. Project is based on the willingness of everyone to do their part.
