Uncut and in Conversation with - Simon Sassoon - Founder of 99point9 automated disinfecting solution
The Hospitality Industry is currently under constant challenge but the positive is that as a result thereof and the need to find solutions and a way forward, many new doors have been opened to continued learning and exposure to new and exiting innovation. Traditionally some will argue that the Hospitality Industry has been a bit reluctant to adopt technology solutions but Covid has forced change and the creation of solutions which are essential to rebuild trust and confidence with the consumer can be found in technology solutions.
EP was delighted to talk to Simon Sassoon, the Founder and CEO of 99POINT9. As an entrepreneur he has been described by the New York Times as a ‘germ visionary’ for his early view (in 2005, post SARS) that hi-tech/easy to use hygiene tools would be crucial in fighting future virus outbreaks and keeping public confidence high.
As the nephew of the UK cultural icon, Vidal Sassoon entrepreneurialism is in his blood.and as such Simon has invented and patented the only automated door handle-disinfecting system (the 99POINT9) to be approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency. His products have been used in iconic venues such as The Savoy, The Shard, Wembley Stadium, MI6, Kew Gardens and Blenheim Palace
As door handles are the main cross-contamination points for viruses i.e. where people mix: hotels/schools/hospitals/offices/restaurants etc. it was fascinating to talk to Simon about the science behind the system, the reason for the invention and his thoughts behind the need for visible steps to be taken to ensure guests/consumers’ health and safety being vital to building confidence and the hospitality industry in general.
A great conversation and well worth a listen.
