Toscana Resort Castelfalfi

The emergence of luxury hotels, with a keen focus on sustainably and providing customers with memorable experiences, are becoming the largest growing trend within the hospitality industry. No longer are people passive concerning where they stay during their holidays and more and more there is an emphasis on how hotels and resorts can be specialized and unforgettable. Ranging from curated dining experiences to endless activities, hotels are now focusing on remodelling the dated idea of an all-inclusive resort and replacing it with quality experiences.

One example of a luxury hotel going above and beyond is Toscana resort Castelfalfi. Located in the heart of the Florentine countryside, close to the 13th-century town of San Gimignano, Castelfalfi is committed to providing immersive guest experiences that draw from the surrounding rural landscapes, promote eco-sustainability, and support the local community - which includes the residents of Castelfalfi and other neighboring villages - through hospitality, organic wine, and olive oil production. The estate comprises an ultra-luxurious five-star hotel featuring 146 guestrooms and suites in the main hotel building and the adjacent turn of the 20th century tobacco warehouse, and luxury apartment and farmhouse-styled villas, designed for groups, families, and friends. For the seasonal spring reopening, Castelfalfi will launch Olivina, a new theatrical restaurant with a landscaped promenade that invites guests to sample the tastes, aromas, sounds, colors, and textures of Tuscany. Helmed by Davide De Simone, the new destination joins four other food and beverage concepts on the estate: a pizzeria and steakhouse, a pool café, a lounge bar, and The Country Clubhouse facing the region’s largest championship golf course. Additionally, when the hotel re-opens on 1 April, guests will be among the first to enjoy the newly re-designed suites - including signature suites, a renovated spa, and best-in-class facilities and programming for younger guests.

When speaking with Roberto Protezione, general manager of Castelfalfi, he mentioned the growing importance of focusing on sustainability.

‘More and more consumers are mindful of how damaging travel can be to the environment and we are seeing an increase in consumer consciousness when it comes to limiting this damage. It is probable that in the coming years sustainability will become a non-negatable aspect of luxury travel to a growing group of consumers and we are starting to see that in order for hotels to stay relevant they must adjust be more environmentally conscious’.

Additionally, Roberto mentioned the resort’s effort to integrate produce from the surrounding region and their agricultural estate. Food with low air miles and regional roots is also becoming a trend in hospitality and as well as ensuring high quality and taste this regional produce is highlighting what Tuscany has to offer and benefiting the local communities.

Castelfalfi is an impressive example of an exceptional luxury resort and with both their mindfulness around sustainability and the integration of experiences to create a uniquely memorable visit, Castelfalfi is setting a new benchmark in hospitality.
