The Great Scottish Road Trip
The signs are good for the resurgence of home-grown tourism in Scotland. Last week, 40 people from around the UK gathered in Edinburgh to set off on the latest Scottish Hospitality Road Trip (SHTRIP Club) expedition, this time to the Isle of Skye.
Congregating in Edinburgh and along various points along the way, the group took in the best of the country's rural roads to reach the Glenelg Inn for lunch on day one, before taking the five-minute Kylerhea ferry across the sea to Skye.
Staying in twin Sonas Hotels properties - Duisdale and Toravaig - in addition to nearby Eilean Iarmain Hotel, the drivers and their passengers enjoyed some of Scotland's finest hospitality over three days and took in several of the islands best roads and attractions along the way.
From Skeabost, Uig and Staffin, to Elgol, Portree, Dunvegan and even the so-called Fairy Pools - along with a few of the country's most prolific distilleries along the way - the tour allowed guests to sample some of Skye's most scenic locations while navigating the island's near-400 miles of world-class roads, tracks and hill climbs.
The bespoke tours aim to take in the best routes, locations and experiences, encouraging people to get out and about, to network and socialise within the current COVID-19 regulations, and to lend crucial support to the hospitality sector across the country.
The next Scottish tour is scheduled for October 2021 and will focus on the unique roads, hotels, sights and F&B of the Scottish Borders, Dumfriesshire and Ayrshire. Plans are also afoot to to extend the trips to Northumberland and on into England once restrictions lift further.
