- “With This Ring, I Me Wed!” Thirty-year-old Wei-yih Chen, an office worker from Taipei, was uninspired by the men she had met from whom she would have picked a marriage partner. Succumbing to social pressure, she eventually decided to get married - to herself!
- During the last few months London has seen owl cocktail bars, porridge cafes and even a micropig picnic, and the trend of bizarre pop-ups doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. The latest one? A fox cafe.
- Whilst One Direction fans are mourning Zayn Malik's shock exit from the band, others have taken to social media to mock the news - and it's hilarious. Queensland Police have demonstrated their share of comedic genius after posting a comment on Thursday morning, warning commuters to “Take it easy on the wet roads this morning. Possibly being added to from the tears of One Direction and Top Gear fans #BNETraffic #1D”
- A banana, a sausage, even a finger and thumb are among the world's most stupid weapons used in robberies. Rory Seager, a teenager from Essex, got a suspended jail term after trying to rob a bookies with a tin of pilchards.
- Way to reel them in! A fisherman got the shock of his life after hooking a gigantic 13 ft shark - after only intending to catch some salmon. Brendon Hilder caught the huge tiger shark on Shelley Beach near Albany in Australia.
- What a bunch of rotten eggs! A court in Cuba has jailed 18 government officials for stealing more than eight million eggs and selling them on the black market.
- And the real winner is... Sweden's Eurovision finalist was chosen at the weekend - but for many it was the bespectacled 48-year-old sign language interpreter who signed the songs for deaf people who stole the show. Tommy Krangh's silky dance moves quickly became a huge hit on social media - with millions watching his video on Facebook and YouTube.
- Hey good looking! If your philtrum (the groove on the upper lip) is sunk to just the right depth you might be eligible for a free meal at the Jeju Island restaurant in Zhengzhou, in China’s Henan Province. Actually, this is just one of the 18 beauty-identification parameters that the restaurant uses to assess good-looking patrons. Ones that pass the test get to eat for free.
- Strictly come.. walking? Chinese officials have upset a rather special group this week by passing guidelines to regulate 'square-dancing' in the country. This type of dance is very popular with elderly women and is performed en masse at night in public squares. The "dancing grannies" will now be subject to regulation.
- This week's best recovery? A Pennsylvania man has won $7 million off a lottery ticket tucked into his get-well card. Joseph Amorese had just undergone hernia surgery and got the ticket from his father. A few scratches later on the "$7 million Golden Ticket," and he was feeling great.
