Ten things which raised an eyebrow this week

Ten things which raised an eyebrow this week

EP brings you a brief round-up of some of the news items which were perhaps as surprising as they were enlightening

  1. In America, DNA analysis of the 466 New York subway system stations has revealed they are playing host to an alarming combination of at least 67 types of disease-causing bacteria including bubonic plague and anthrax!
  • When beauty turns ugly! Things suddenly soured at the final of the Miss Amazonas 2015 when the first runner-up attacked, ripping the crown off the winner's head! She later claimed her actions were "a protest in the way the pageant was planned" and not an indication of her being a sore-loser
  • The marketing team at Ryanair has come in for no small amount of criticism after a "route map" in the latest inflight magazine placed Dublin in Northern Ireland, Derry in the Republic and Cork on the East Coast
  • "Someone needs to think long and hard about what they've done!" In Canada, a bus-station guide had to be taken down less than a day after its erection, when passengers commented the shape was considerably more titillating than designers may have intentioned
  • According to a new report by The University of Sheffield, as much as 25% of all marine life is in danger of extinction thanks to the deadly combination of pollution, over-fishing, the destruction of coral reefs and climate change
  • The none-too-impressive title of Scotland's most dismal town has been awarded to "Aberdoom", after a report found it had been "left behind" following its exclusion from the 2017 City of Culture shortlist, amongst other issues
  • "I had to wait for the Judge to set my bail", "I knocked myself out in the shower" and "I dreamt I had been fired" have all been included on the list of actual (crazy) answers to the question "Why were you late to work?"
  • Good Deed Feed: Unable to afford a new car, and restricted by the severely limited city bus service, 56 year old Detroit resident James Robertson has spent the last decade walking 21 miles to work every day. When his story was highlighted in local press, donations came in thick & fast from all over the country, including the offer of a new car from a local dealership
  • In Ireland a Tesco shopped has admitted to "causing the display of indecent matter" after he changed the background image on a display iPad from a generic scene to something altogether more "blue"
  • Finally, for any Best Man/Groomsmen/brothers/friends out there thinking about what to do to make the next Bachelor Party really memorable, we suggest you take some lessons from this group of pyrotechnic, adrenalin-junkie, thrill-seeking-lunatics who spent weeks planning the ultimate "Rambo Day" for the soon-to-be-groom ... fake tan spray included!
