Ten things which raised an eyebrow this week

Ten things which raised an eyebrow this week

EP brings you a brief round-up of some of the news items which were perhaps as surprising as they were enlightening
  1. Claiming the company has joined the "economic war against Venezuela", President Nicolas Maduro has joined in barrage of attacks on McDonald's as the multi-national food chain continues to suffer from a shortage of French Fries due to a lack of available potatoes in the Country
  • Well, it is said to be man's best friend! In Florida a replacement welcome-mat at the door of a local Sheriff's department was inadvertently installed with the caption "In Dog We Trust" - a typo by the manufacturer which wasn't noticed for 2 months!
  • There were red faces all round after the social media team at BlackBerry posted to Twitter from an iPhone, encouraging followers to “keep up with the conversation on @twitter"
  • Elsewhere on Twitter, the social media team at Aer Lingus has become viral sensations after joining the #FiveWordsToRuinADate conversation with the sarcastic comment I usually fly into Stansted - a dig clearly aimed at "another Irish carrier"!
  • Hell hath no fury like ... an angry husband out for revenge. In Uganda, a local fisherman has tracked and killed the crocodile which ate his pregnant wife! Demeteriya Nabwire has since been hailed a hero for killing the reptile which is believed to have eaten as many as 6 other villagers
  • Locals have been left somewhat traumatised by the news that police found a body in the water tank in Mexico City. Complaints of a "strange taste" led officials to dredge the system, only to make the grizzly discovery of the putrefied remains of Carmen Esparza, a full year after she went missing!
  • As locals start using blocks of concrete, bicycles chained together and toilet basins to reserve parking spots it seems the lack of city-centre car parking is becoming a serious issue around China
  • Rather than making a good first impression, there are some candidates, like the man who brought 50 pens to the interview, and then spread them out on the table before uttering a word through to the woman who tried to Google the answer to a question during interview, who were unsurprisingly unsuccessful at their attempts to find a new job
  • Police in America have released video footage of a woman wearing pyjamas and a leather jacket who entered the station carrying a Dunkin' Donuts box and proceeded to throw raw bacon and sausage meat at officers, before being arrested
  • If you think you're having a bad week, then spare a thought for the driver in Halifax who flipped a 44-tonne lorry after blindly following his SatNav down a small country lane and crashing into a ditch!
