Ten things which raised an eyebrow this week

EP brings you a brief round-up of some of the news items which were perhaps as surprising as they were enlightening

  1. You'll need some serious Naked Ambition if you're to take part in the UK's first Streaking Competition!
  2. Organisers of the football World Cup have received a number of mandates from National teams including the Ecuadorians who expect a basket of bananas in every room, the French who want liquid soap as the players "don't like bars of soap", and the Portuguese advised they'll be travelling with 6 security personnel 4 of whom will only guard Cristiano Ronaldo!
  3. For a Nation of erstwhile explorers, it seems Brits have become confused by geography. In a survey of 2,000 people it was found that 29% couldn't properly place "The Great Wall of China" while 11% thought the Sydney Opera House was in Italy. Most alarmingly another 20% thought Big Ben is in Australia
  4. Police in Rhode Island have made a spud-tacular arrest of a man who tried to rob a convenience store with a potato
  5. Tired of the crowds? Are you craving some peace at the dining table? A new restaurant has opened in Amsterdam which only accommodates single diners
  6. Earlier this week a British woman was deported from Sri Lanka because her Buddha tattoo "offended" locals. An extreme move however not nearly as surprising as the 14 year old boy who was exiled to Australia in the 1840s for pinching the Queen's panties or the three gentlemen who were thrown out of Saudi Arabia for being "too good looking"
  7. Measuring 11 x 14 thousandths of a millimetre, the cover of National Geographic Kids is the size of a red blood cell and invisible to the naked eye
  8. Using strips of inter-twined rubber strips twisted around each other, Scientists have created a new shape called a hemihelix
  9. The Fat Duck? Le Gavroche? It might surprise you to learn that the most expensive restaurant in the World is The Hard Rock Hotel in Ibiza where the average bill tops £1,230 per person!
  10. From the humble postman to the checkout cashier, here's a list of 10 jobs that wont exist in a decade (Perhaps TFL ticket office workers should also be added?!)
