Take a moment...Can you remember the names of the teachers who inspired you?

Leadership is more than business management.
It plays a broad role as it inspires the present and future.

Leadership is so often misunderstood. It is not about the best business manager or organiser but something more which touches and inspires people to reach a higher level.

It is an interesting one but most can only remember three or four teachers from their school years and often they will be split between those who one feared or the ones who inspired. Who inspired you to work harder to improve?

It is the same with leaders. Who has inspired you with a vision of what the team is striving to achieve and what your role could be within it?
Leadership plays a bigger role than just in delivering results. It is about inspiring young talent, communities and even playing a role in society.

For too long, in recent years, real leadership has almost been ignored in favour of those who are focused on delivering results even at the expense of things which are important. In the last twenty years, it became acceptable to see investment in L&D as almost a luxury item when, in truth, it was a responsibility of the business.

There have been almost comical features written in recent years about what percentage of corporate CEOs possess psychopathic tendencies or the lack of need for a strong culture or values to business being judged by how it builds wealth. Is it any one wonder that questions are being asked about sustainable business strategies and why so many are disengaged?

Leadership plays a bigger role than just in delivering results. It is about inspiring young talent, communities and even playing a role in society.

Leadership is needed more than ever. It is not taught in schools. It is now time to become far more serious about the development of this most important skill.
