Leadership - a snapshot report
New Leaders, Traditional Values
EP and partners were delighted to host a thought-provoking and insightful conference exploring the issue of “leadership” in its many guises and the impact of corporate-culture on a business.
Entitled “New Leaders, Traditional Values” the event began with an overview of business in the sector from Peter Lederer, Chairman of Gleneagles Hotel Group who challenged the audience to "start slow leadership - the conscious guidance of the greatest assets of hospitality, the people"
With so much covered throughout the event, it would be Impossible to share all of the knowledge & insights shared, however there were some key messages which came through in the course of the conference, including
- According to a recent GALLUP survey only 13% of employees are engaged in their work while 63% are not and an incredible 24% are actively disengaged
- Generation Y (born between 1981 and 2000) make up 19% of the UK hospitality sector workforce
- Compared with 18% of the wider economy, 48% of the entire hospitality sector workforce is made up of people under the age of 29
- "Empowerment is not about giving things to people, it's about taking barriers out of their way"
It’s important not to lose traction on such an important topic, so the team at EP are already excitedly planning a follow-up conference in 2015.
