So that we all work together as we face whatever Brexit may mean.
By Chris Sheppardson, Managing Director, EPWhatever happens over the next few weeks in relation to Brexit – and it does seem most people are just fed up with the whole process and desire to see it over one way or another – we will need to all work closer together, be less territorial, and find a new enjoyment in building relationships across industries. There are many that argue that executives no longer no network effectively anymore and there is little more important in order to see different perspectives and open doors to business.
He always argued that the most valuable venue in London to visit was the IOD and in his days, he would spend two days a week there meeting directors from all walks of life with a clear eye on building new friendships, learning and most importantly, winning business.
Marc Verstringhe, one of the greats of the Hospitality Industry, always saw business and life through different eyes to most. He always argued that the most valuable venue in London to visit was the IOD and in his days, he would spend two days a week there meeting directors from all walks of life with a clear eye on building new friendships, learning and most importantly, winning business. How many of his competitors did the same? None that I know of. He stood apart and he built a business that commanded universal respect for he also understood the importance of people and teams.Marc’s rationale stands at the core of much of what EP’s Emerging Leaders Network is about – people from all walks of professional life coming together to talk, learn, build friendships and opening the doors to business.
As we stand today, there are so many forecasts being made re what may happen in 2019.
The open great truth for all of us is that we need to ready ourselves for change to learn new ways – or maybe old ways. We all need to be competitive and not just rely on process, compliance and modern comms to win business.
So many networks are still relying on their own circles, their traditional networks which is all fine but these are, however well intentioned, gradually declining as many are seeking something more – something more in learning, new hearing new thoughts and ideas, in meeting new people. One of the exciting aspects on the emerging generation is that they do think bigger, and they are looking for new ideas and thinking that will inspire them – but those ideas and thinking will unlikely come just from the traditional – it needs a breeding ground that comes from all industries coming together, to talk and explore new ideas. This is at the heart of the Emerging Leaders Network but it should now also be at the heart of all bodies, institutions and networking bodies – to think bigger, more bore boldly and really engage in a bigger agenda that works for their members and for all.
