Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

This age old saying which was allegedly said by Albert Einstein many moons ago is also famed for being the most used cliché of all time. It is difficult to argue against it and the explanation of the error in repeated incorrect thinking or behaviour is very clear. The puzzling thing however is that despite it being so clichéd and also so obvious in its explanation, so many of our behaviours and thinking can really only be described within this definition of "insanity". Why do we look to the past and repeat it? Why are we surprised when the old won't work in the new and how can we be confused when the "it didn't really work then" is tried again on the off chance that "it does work this time"?
The world keeps reminding us in so many ways that things have changed, for good. That 2019 is now part of history and simply cannot be a goal for our futures. Yet, in so many ways we continue doing the same thing in the hope that, despite the insanity of it all, if we do it enough times it will change the outcome.

This is true in many environments but especially in talent development, the nurturing of talent and in their education. How can we still be confident that doing what used to work "back in the day" is good enough let alone relevant for today? The world has changed, talent has changed and so we must change, as uncomfortable or inconvenient as this may seem to be.

Talent are looking for bespoke support, learning and knowledge share opportunities facilitated on exciting digital platforms where comms and engagement are seamless and which meet their needs, and change with their needs as quickly as they do. They want to share learnings and engage in communities which challenge their thinking and allows them the opportunity to support each other. For support to be personal and personalised, accessible and interesting - on their terms and not "as we used to do it" or "have always done it"… days in a room with a whiteboard and bad biscuits.

Education needs an insanity check too. Are we really maximising the opportunity to develop future talent for (clue in the title) the future or are we cut and pasting from the past, over and over again in the hope that it will be fit for the future and therefore, create different results? If we are, then surely this does sound somewhat insane.

Ritrovo is all about sanity. Ritrovo is about listening to talent and adapting accordingly, and continuing to do so as talent, their needs and the world changes. It is about creating bespoke support and solutions for both learning and development but also for the essential personalisation that talent craves. It is about seamless knowledge share across industries and geographies. Ritrovo is about future thinking, community and social cloud creating and about truly being about what Albert Einstein did on so many levels, changing the past for a better future.
