A new take on learning for those in hospitality, food and drink sectors
The Oxford Cultural Collective (OCC) has launched a permanent, international programme of masterclasses aimed at those who love food, drink and hospitality, whether seasoned professionals, aspiring entrepreneurs or enthusiastic amateurs.
Starting in October 2020, many of the masterclasses are now open for booking.
The programme features an array of renowned figures as guest tutors, including academics, entrepreneurs, chefs, activists, writers, journalists and broadcasters. Drawing on their extensive experience, they will deliver masterclasses (online and in-person) that support participants’ personal growth and development, which are also being engaging and enjoyable. The tutors bring a wider range of cultural perspectives, which reflects the diversity that characterises hospitality and gastronomy and which enables them to challenge orthodox understanding and practice.
The initial programme features Yasmin Khan (writer and activist); Felicity Cloake (Guardian and New Statesman columnist); Julian Baggini (philosopher and academic); Levi Roots (entrepreneur and reggae singer); Nik Sharma (New York Times columnist and food writer); Zoe Adjonyoh (writer and activist), Karen Barnes (editor, Delicious magazine), Lolis Eric Elie (screenwriter and journalist); Jean Roberts (professional coach and photographer); Jessica B. Harris (culinary historian, writer and broadcaster; Elise Dillsworth (literary agent); and Fuchsia Dunlop (food writer and memoirist).
Some of the masterclasses are focused on general self-development, such as ‘Awakening your Entrepreneurial Spirit’ (Levi Roots) and ‘Getting your Career on Track’ (Jean Roberts), whilst others are aimed at those with specific interests, including ‘Finding your Voice in Food Media’ (Zoe Adjonyoh) and ‘Building your Career in Food Journalism’ (Karen Barnes).
Open for bookings from individuals, it is also possible for block-bookings to be made by organisations wishing to integrate masterclasses into their professional development frameworks.
